Top Local Charities to Support This Holiday Season in Newmarket, Aurora & Bradford

As the holidays draw near, many families in our community are facing financial challenges that make it hard to celebrate. Thankfully, there are a number of local charities and programs across Newmarket, Aurora, and Bradford that count on community donations to brighten the season for those in need. One of the most recognized initiatives is the Holiday Heroes Toy Drive, led by York Regional Police. Running from November 15 to December 19, 2025, the campaign collects new, unwrapped toys, gift cards, non-perishable food, and hygiene products. Donations can be dropped off at all NewRoads dealerships in Newmarket, Aurora, and Richmond Hill, or directly at York Regional Police headquarters in Aurora.

While younger children often receive the most attention during holiday drives, teenagers are just as deserving of care and consideration. Items such as beauty products, gift cards, and small electronics or accessories go a long way in helping teens feel valued and included during the season. These thoughtful gifts ensure that every age group shares in the spirit of giving.

Don’t forget about infants and babies, who are also among the most vulnerable. Essential items like formula, diapers, wipes, and baby shampoo are always in high demand. New clothing, sleepers, blankets, bottles, and developmental toys such as rattles and teething rings make thoughtful and practical contributions for new parents and their little ones.

Beyond the Holiday Heroes campaign, there are several community-based programs making a real impact. The Newmarket Lions Club Santa Fund distributes grocery vouchers to families who need extra help during the holidays. Bradford West Gwillimbury Fire & Emergency Services runs its own toy drive, ensuring local children receive something special. Meanwhile, the Town of Aurora organizes an annual food and toy drive, with donation bins conveniently located at the municipal offices on Mulock Drive. Supporting these efforts helps your contributions directly benefit families in your own neighbourhood.

There are also many ways to give beyond toys and gifts. The Newmarket Food Pantry supports over 2,300 residents each month and is always in need of non-perishable food items and personal care products. Similarly, the Helping Hand Food Bank in Bradford provides groceries to families through its community marketplace, accepting donations on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. For clothing, Trinity Anglican Church in Aurora operates the Clothes Closet, which offers gently used apparel to those in need, with drop-off bins located behind the church.

Each act of giving - no matter the size - helps bring warmth, comfort, and hope to someone nearby. By supporting these local charities, you’re helping make the holiday season brighter for families throughout Newmarket, Aurora, and Bradford.
